Joint JMLBA/APABA-CO/HNBA Summer Minority PanelAPABA-CO, John Mercer Langston Bar Association, and the Hispanic National Bar Association present Lessons Learned: Navigating the Social and Political Atmosphere of a Successful Summer. Joint APABA-CO/APALSA Happy HourAPABA-CO/APALSA will be having a joint happy hour will be held next Wednesday, March 20 from 5:30-7:30p at the Elevator Bar downtown (161 N. High Street). APABA-CO will provide appetizers and 2 drinks per person. People are allowed to bring a guest who will be covered as well. Specials for the evening will be $3 pints, wells, and some wines. APABA-CO Annual DinnerAPABA-CO will be having its annual dinner on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 6:30PM. It will be held at Cumin Indian Restaurant (1025 Polaris Pkwy, Columbus, OH 43240; 614.854.0775). Food and drinks will be provided by APABA-CO, and there will be membership forms available for people to fill out for the 2013 membership year ($10 membership fee). The Sixth Annual GalaEach year APABA-CO hosts a Gala as a fundraising and awareness event at which we include speakers and cultural experiences in furtherance of our mission. Third Annual Family PicnicAPABA-CO will be having its' third annual family picnic. It will be on Sunday, September 16, 2012 from 12 - 3PM. The location is at Scioto Park--Central Shelter-7377 Riverside Dr. Dublin, OH 43016. Last year's picnic was a huge success, and we are hoping for an even better turn out this year! Family and significant others are encouraged to attend. There will be sports, entertainment, and other games, but feel free to bring whatever picnic-friendly things you have lying around in your basements or garages--baseballs, volleyballs, corn hole sets, frisbees, etc. Also, there will be entertainment for kids. The event will be catered by City BBQ and will also feature a vegetarian option. We can't wait to see you there!
Clippers GameAPABA-CO invites you to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine (hopefully) at a Clippers' baseball game. The game will take place at Huntington Park in the Arena District on Thursday, August 30th, at 7:05pm. Tickets will be provided, along with $10 in Clippers Cash--good for food and beverages. Case Western's Third Annual Midwest APALSA ConferencePlease consider attending Case Western's Third Annual Midwest APALSA Conference, which was recently approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on CLE Credit for 3.00 total CLE hours instruction. The conference entitled, "Building Your Niche: Creating a Professional Identity in Practice and Beyond," will feature close to twenty-five speakers who will encourage discussion on various areas of the law. Topics include: immigration, intellectual property, international business, in-house practice, public interest, and government. In addition, we will also have speakers with knowledge about public service loan forgiveness, effective networking, as well as a few who have utilized their law degrees to take alternative career paths. This year, Ms. Wendy Shiba, the President-elect of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, will participate as our keynote speaker. Ms. Shiba is a Cleveland native and formerly was Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of PolyOne Corporation, headquartered in the Cleveland area. We hope that you will join us. a great event this coming Tuesday, January 31, at COSI from 4:00 pm
- 7:00 pm. The event centers around the new exhibit, RACE: Are we
so different?, which is set to open on January 28. From 4:00 - 5:00,
there will be a panel discussion featuring Ben Espy, Carl Smallwood,
and Professor Molinda Molina. Jennifer Adair, president of JMLBA,
and David Dokko, VP of APABA-CO, will be moderating the discussion.
Following the discussion will be drinks and hors d'oeuvres, along
with a private viewing of the RACE exhibit. This, along with parking,
is all included with the $25 ticket. When entering the parking lot,
mention you are there for the CBA event, and you will be admitted
without payment. APABA-CO will be purchasing 5 tickets, which will
be distributed to members on a first-come, first-served basis. Please

Japan Relief Effort Fundraiser/Happy HourOur thoughts are with the people of Japan and our friends and family affected by the tragic earthquake and tsunami. The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Central Ohio is sponsoring a fund-raiser/happy hour on Wednesday, March 30, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Bar 23, which is located on The Cap in the Short North. To help with immediate emergency relief and humanitarian efforts in Japan, we will be collecting donations at the door and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross. In an effort to bring our community together, we are inviting APABA-CO members as well as other local organizations including the Young Asian American Professional Network, American Constitutional Society, Asian American Community Services, the John Mercer Langston Bar Association, and the Columbus chapter of the National Association of Asian American Professionals. However, all are invited and we appreciate your support for this worthy cause. In order to maximize our fundraising efforts, APABA-CO will match the donations collected up to $500.
